The Salt Song Trail: A Living Documentary

the Nuwuvi, filming themselves

Two sittings. The first at Stewart, in Carson City, in October 2006. The second in the Old Woman Mountains, out in the Mojave, the following April.

Made by the Salt Song Trail Project — Matthew Leivas, Sr., Chemehuevi, and Vivienne Caron Jake, Kaibab Paiute — with the Storyscape Project of The Cultural Conservancy. Cut by Cara McCoy and Bridget Sandate, both Chemehuevi.

It does not explain the songs. A camera is pointed at people singing and the singing runs.

There is a map as well, drawn with the singers, marking the trail across the four states it crosses. It is the only part of any of this that can be folded.

A thing with no copy has one now. It was made by the people it belongs to.
