To dissimulate is to pretend not to have what one has. To simulate is to pretend to have what one has not. The first leaves the principle of reality intact. The second does not.

A man who pretends to be ill can go to bed and make believe he is ill. A man who simulates illness produces in himself some of the symptoms. He is no longer pretending. Medicine cannot get behind him to the well body, because there is no longer a well body back there to get to.

This is the whole argument, and it is available in one sentence, and nobody believes it when they read it once.

Apply it outward. A currency that simulates value produces value. An institution that simulates authority produces authority. A network that simulates a person produces a person, in the only sense of the word that has ever done any work.

You have been doing this the whole time. This is not the accusation it sounds like. It may be the only thing you have ever done that could not be done by weather.
